Culture is and should be something we include when designing for behavior change.

If we don’t, we may miss out on the context of how our solutions will work, and we may end up with a replication problem.

Though it’s something that is newer to bring in to behavioral science, it is impossible to start understanding and applying it.

This is a great book to get your mindset right on culture.

I’ve seen this myself, having lived in 10+ cities - Singapore, Dubai, Stockholm, Amsterdam etc… that not every norm, culture works the same.

So, I urge you to pick up this great book called the Culture Map by Erin Meyer

It has some great things to think about:

💡Communication - low vs high context
💡Evaluation- Direct vs Indirect negative feedback
💡Persuading - Principles vs Application first
💡Scheduling - Flexible vs Linear time

All of these can be dimensions you use in your design.
