Here are 4 takeaways from📕 Unf#ck Your Brain 🧠 by Faith G Harper.

Book by: Faith G Harper

This is a great and quick weekend read!

The title will already tell you that the book will not be PG rated, however, that’s fine with me.

The style is straightforward and has also humor in how it’s written.

This summer, I am really focusing on the brain, neuroscience and decision making in my reading.

As I am working on Organizational Change projects, books like this give me Ideas 💡 for:

1. Employee Wellbeing: Understanding that employees' behavior and productivity can be affected by past concepts and experiences, which can lead to more empathetic and supportive management.

2. Team Dynamics: By understanding how stress affects brain function, teams can work together more effectively, with a greater understanding of where their colleagues may be coming from.

3. Leadership: Leaders who understand the principles of stress and neuroplasticity can foster a more compassionate and supportive environment that promotes employee wellbeing and, consequently, higher productivity and engagement.

4. Organizational Culture: An understanding of these concepts can help shape an organizational culture that acknowledges and respects mental health, reducing stigma and promoting open conversations.

Something that I really loved, was when the author emphasized that we have storytelling brains, we are always telling stories, not because we want to, but because we have to - as she says “it’s a biological human drive”

Also important - the brain can be retrained. I try and work on this for myself every day.

Although the takeaways are made for Orgs, they really are about all of us and our brains.
